Frequently Asked Questions

What is a setup?

A setup is a process of fine-tuning a guitar to make it play the way it was designed to play. This process most often involves fretboard cleaning and polishing, truss rod adjustment, action (string height) adjustment, and intonation (playing in tune across the fretboard).

Why is a setup beneficial?

A setup is beneficial for the owner of the guitar and for the instrument itself. When a guitar plays the way is was originally intended, it becomes a more inspiring tool in the hands of the player. A well setup instrument is easier to play, sounds better in a mix, and builds confidence in individuals and teams. Regularly cleaned and polished frets prolong the life of the instrument by reducing string wear on frets; this can prevent costly future repairs and replacements.

How often do I need a setup?

Just like most anything in life, materials and components shift over time. Having a setup done straight from the factory gives a baseline playability expectation for the life of the instrument and depending on how often it is used, a setup is beneficial every two to three years.

Does Dave offer other guitar repair services?

Yes, Dave does other guitar repair services that include fret level and crown, bridge or binding reglue, pickup install or swap, wiring repair/replacement, and minor repairs
